Every day, the men and women of our police and fire departments put their lives on the line to ensure our safety. The Valor Public Safety Awards and Scholarship Program pays tribute to the heroism and sacrifice of our public safety workers.
It recognizes the bravest in our community, the ones who daily put themselves in harm’s way to ensure the safety of others. 2011 marks the inaugural year of the Lawrence-Douglas County Valor Awards and presents a unique opportunity to publicly recognize our first responders, and the families that support them.
The Valor Public Safety Awards recognize the courage of those who go above and beyond the normal call of duty. The first awards of the Lawrence-Douglas County Valor Public Safety Awards and Scholarship Program will be presented at a public ceremony in October 2011.
Four levels of awards will be presented to the honorees – Gold, Silver, Bronze and Meritorious Service. For more information on the individual awards, click here.
The heart of the Valor Awards program is in its Scholarship program. The children of all Medal of Valor honorees will receive a one-time grant of $1,000 to assist them in their post-secondary education. For more information on the scholarship grants, click here.
