The Valor Honor Awards recognize the courageous actions of our first responders throughout Lawrence and Douglas County.
The Police, Fire, Public Safety, Emergency Response and Sheriff’s offices participating in the Valor Public Safety Awards program nominate members of their department for the awards. A selection committee will then review all of the nominations before choosing this year’s inaugural honorees.
The awards will be presented at a Fall ceremony where guests will hear the first-hand accounts of bravery and heroism shown by these largely unheralded members of our community.
The Gold Valor Honor Award will be awarded in recognition of heroic acts involving extreme personal risk which are clearly above and beyond the call of duty.
The Silver Valor Honor Award will be awarded in recognition of heroic acts involving great personal risk which are above and beyond the call of duty.
The Bronze Valor Honor Award will be awarded in recognition of acts involving unusual personal risk beyond the call of duty. The Bronze Honor Award also may be awarded for demonstrating unusual judgment, zeal or ingenuity not normally expected in performance of duties.
The Meritorious Service Valor Honor Award will be awarded in recognition of acts involving personal risk or demonstrating unusual judgment, zeal or ingenuity not normally expected in the performance of duties.
The Life Saving Valor Honor Award will be awarded in recognition of acts taken in a life-threatening situation, where an individual's life is in jeopardy.
